My Top 5 Worst DS Single Card Mulitplayer Games
Everyone likes playing games with friends, and because the DS family has Wi-Fi, you can easily. What's even better is that most of the time you can do this with only one game card. However, sometimes developers think that single-card multiplayer means that they can slack off. These are the Top 5 WORST examples of this.
#5 - The Legendary Starfy (Single Card Co-Op Mode)
What's nice about The Legendary Starfy is that in almost every level another player can join in as Starly, Starfy's sister. Now, the problem with this isn't to player 2, it's to player 1, the person who owns the game! Starly is far better then Starfy, because of her amazing array of different moves. Also, there are some treasures you can't get without Starly. Isn't that nice? The person who bought the game plays second fiddle to the person who just tags-along.
#4 - Kirby SuperStar Ultra (Single Card Co-Op Mode)
Kirby Super Star Saga has a Two-Card Co-op mode, which is fantastic. However, Single-Card co-op mode is awful for two reasons. First, you can only play through the first game. Second, the greater of the two, Players 2 has to look at Player 1's screen, while controlling with their DS. That means you two have to get right beside each other, and also, the person playing Kirby can be a dick to you and never make a helper, making your existence pointless. It's surprisingly hard to multitask when you can't see your screen.
#3 - Kirby Squeak Squad (Single Card Minigames)
Oh hey, another Kirby game. Good Job, HAL. I have a bias to the single player mode in KSS, mostly because it was the first game I played on the DS. However, the minigames are just dreadful. This wouldn't be a problem if there were more then three, yes, three minigames. Three! New Super Mario Bros. had seventeen, and most of them were even better to play with friends. Playing with your friends on KSS is really awful, because of lag. The lag is horrible. Four players can play, but playing with more then two is a nightmare.
#2 - Spongebob SquarePants: Atlantis SquarePantis (Single Card Minigames)
Now, I really hate to put this game on here, because it has an excellent Single-Card Co-Op mode. However, the mini-games are just horrible. They're really, really bad. They are plagued by bad touchscreen controls, bad graphics, and a noticeable slowdown compared to the Co-Op mode. It has four players, but none can play as Squidward. THQ thought you'd rather play as Sandy instead. The only game worth playing for a minute is all for one, just because you can beat up Sandy, Patrick or Mr. Krabs.
#1 - LOL! (The Whole Game)
Hey, remember LOL? The $20 game that's the exact same as Pictochat? Remember my review of it? Yeah, well, I didn't mention what it was like to be the Player 2 in that game. It's excruciatingly boring. You have to wait for all the other players to use their turn before you can send in your answer, and because the host decides the winner, there's no skill involved. This is a game you'll only play once with friends, because you'll all come to the conclusion you can do the same thing on Pictochat, and one player won't have to be the host every game.
So there we have it. If you disagree with my opinion, feel free to post your thoughts in the comments section, because feedback = happy. So, goodbye, good night, and waffles? Don't you mean Carrots?
